Welcome to the Greeneville City Schools Website. ::

Lyle C. Ailshie, Ed.D. - Director of Schools

Welcome to the web site of the Greeneville City School System. Greeneville is a small town of approximately 16,000 nestled in the foothills of the Unaka Mountains, which is a part of the Great Smoky Mountains. The system includes four elementary schools (EastView, Hal Henard, Highland, and Tusculum View), one middle school (Greeneville Middle), one high school (Greeneville High School), and one vocational/technical school (Greeneville-Greene County Center for Technology).  Total student enrollment is approximately 2800.  Approximately 25% of these students are tuition paying students.

On our web site you will find a variety of information, ranging from in-system communication to student achievement data. If you can't find what you are looking for here, don't hesitate to call or email us. We will be more than happy to provide any information you may need.

The Greeneville City School System has a rich tradition of exemplary student achievement. Recent student achievement data ranks the system as one of the state's elite school districts. Whether examining curriculum offerings, ACT scores, Advance Placement courses, extracurricular activities, athletics, band, chorus, or the many other indicators of a successful school system, you will quickly realize that students and their needs come first.

Over the last eight years, individual schools and the system as a whole has received national recognitions seven times. Recent accomplishments include the following: Greeneville Middle School being named a 21st Century School of Distinction; EastView Elementary School being named National Blue Ribbon Award winner by the U. S. Department of Education; Tusculum View Elementary School and Greeneville Middle School being designated a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence "Lighthouse School;" Greeneville High School being named a 2008 U. S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School (ceremony is scheduled for September 2008 in Washington, D.C.); the school system being named a "Sprint Showcase School;" the school system being named the 2008 Sylvia Charp Award winner by the International Society for Technology in Education.

Every school in the system has its facility enhanced in some way over the past ten years. Greeneville High School has been completely renovated and has new additions. Greeneville Middle School, EastView Elementary School, and Tusculum View Elementary School have had new classroom additions and new or improved HVAC systems. Hal Henard Elementary School and Highland Year Round Elementary School have had interior renovations and new HVAC systems completed.  An 1150-seat performing arts center was completed in the fall of 2004.  This center was made possible through a model partnership of private and public funding.

I encourage you to fully explore our web site and learn more about our system.  I also hope you will have the opportunity to visit and see for yourself what is going on in our schools. Our Vision is to "provide a world class education for all students." We are pleased with our progress, but plan to continue our journey with passionate persistence.
